A full-day course on art writing in Berlin
Blogs, Facebook, self-publishing: everyone’s a writer now. But how many can really write well and – even better – make a living from it? In this full-day course, frieze Associate Editor Pablo Larios and guest speaker Jan Verwoert will give their insights into writing about art and will provide specific references about writing for an international art readership in English and German. This course is essential for journalists, critics, bloggers and anyone interested in getting practical and inspiring advice in the field of art writing.

Who are you writing for?
Different styles of art criticism
Practical advice on becoming an art writer: from how to pitch, to what you can expect during the editing process, and how much you should be charging
Writing for English and German-language publications
Tickets include lunch. Doors open at 10am and close at 5.30pm.
Pablo Larios is Associate Editor at frieze. Aside from numerous texts on artists, exhibition reviews and catalogue texts, he authored the artists' texts for the 9th Berlin Biennale (2016) and the guidebook for the 15th Istanbul Biennial (2017). He is editor of two artists' monographs on Slavs and Tatars and on Philipp Fehr and Henning Rühr, both forthcoming with Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther König.
Jan Verwoert is a Berlin-based art critic and cultural theorist. He is professor at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts, visiting professor at the Royal Academy of Arts, London, and teaches at the Piet Zwart Institute Rotterdam. He is also contributing editor to frieze magazine.
