What can art and the gallery space do for activism?
Due to the unstable political climate, recent years have seen something of a revitalisation of political protests, marches and activism. Where activism is resurfacing with force, to what extent can exhibitions light the touch-paper of social change? How and where does counter culture infiltrate mainstream thinking? And which exhibitions have truly ignited a positive political and social change? This talk reviews exhibitions that explore counter-cultural undercurrents, probing below the mainstream gaze to examine the maverick movements, rebels and iconoclasts that engage, challenge and create change.
E-J Scott is a Fashion Historian.
